Designing the USP for UX was Here community platform to increase stickiness of the product in 3 days in a design jam.
OVERVIEW:
UXwasHere is a community platform for UX enthusiasts with the goal to create a unified global UX community. In this Eunoia Design Jam, our client was UXwasHere where my team focused on improving the engagement within the platform. During the 3 days, my team and I collaborated on the research, pivoting from our initial idea and designed the final solution.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
UXwasHere(UwH) has a high turn rate and low usage rate. Designers were signing up, but did not want to actively engage with the platform.
Users in the current platform did not use the platform features to it's full potential. If people were looking jobs or to make connections, why not just linkedin. How can we make UwH more appealing to users and increase retention within the platform?
BREAKDOWN OF THE PROBLEM
👩💻
Users don't feel motivated to engage with the platform
Since there are no incentives for people to use Minivillage at an everyday basis, users miss out on making some meaningful connections
❓
There are other community platforms that are established, so why UXwasHere?
Users feel it as an extra task to make meaningful connections within their close community on top of their personal work. Therefore, they reach out to neighbours at emergencies but not at a regular basis.
WHAT DOES THE CLIENT EXPECT?
From on Matt Karakalic's (client) origin story to start UwH, we understood key business goals and his personal vision.
🔍
His origin story of solving a frustrating experience through design thinking.
During the opening ceremony, Matt shared his inspiring story of how he trying to solve a problem in his company cafeteria through UX and design thinking. As a team, we really appreciated his origin story and wondered how we can could incorporate this act of active problem solving into our final solution.
🌎
Client's business goal was to unify and create a global UX community.
Matt emphasised his company goal to create a global community, where designers in India could work with designers in Canada. The idea of global collaboration was a highlight.

UNDERSTANDING OUR USER PERSPECTIVE
Drawing and answering questions to help our understanding of user motivations to join communities.
We asked 4 individuals to draw a 'negative or bad' interaction/experience they had recently to establish a relaxed conversation and support them to start thinking about UX problems in their daily lives. With that, we interviewed them about their needs and goals to join design communities in Vancouver.

KEY INSIGHTS FROM RESEARCH
1.
Users look to network with people and also try to find design inspiration for project work
3 out of 4 users mention that they look for inspiration, design connections and for job opportunities. As younger designers, they are interested to add quality work to their portfolios and hence want to see more inspiration.
2.
Effortlessly search for job opportunities and connect with professionals, even though the process can be daunting
Even though users register/join these platforms, they are too hesitant to actively participate due to fear of 'lacking experience' and lack of motiviation.
INITIAL IDEA, DIDN'T WORK - BUT IT"S OK
Creating a geotagging system where users can share and post bad experiences they are interact with anywhere in the world
From an initial brainstorm session, we pooled some of our ideas taking insights from the business and user goals. This brainstorming session led to our team coming up with our first idea on geotagging and using it to highlight 'bad UX' around the world. We beleived that this would encourage more global collaboration.

PIVOTING FROM OUR INITIAL IDEA
We received mentor feedback which made us realize we need to expand our thought process and hone in on a specific value add for UwH

CONVERGING OUR IDEAS AGAIN
We initially thought the geotagging system was the optimal choice, but feedback suggested otherwise. After revisiting our research, we regrouped and brainstormed more.

FINALIZING OUR DESIGN CONCEPT
